ThougheverychildmaynowknowmoreoftheactualtruthsofthecelestialmotionsthaneverPtolemyknew,yetthefactthathisworkexercisedsuchanastonishingeffectonthehumanintellectforsomesixtygenerations,showsthatitmusthavebeenanextraordinaryproduction.Wemustlookintothecareerofthiswonderfulmantodiscoverwhereinlaythesecretofthatmarvelloussuccesswhichmadehimtheunchallengedinstructorofthehumanraceforsuchaprotractedperiod.
