七、较高程度表达法
437 对两个（或两组）人或东西加以比较，说明其中一个在某方面“更……”，主要用比较级表示。比较级原则上要和一个由than引出的从句一起用。
He speaks English better than I speak Chinese．
He loved his dogs more than you love your children．
438 和as引出的从句一样，than引出的从句中，与前面重复的词通常省略，而只把相比部分说出（参阅425节）。
John can understand Chinese better than Richard（can understand Chinese）．（主句中的主语和从句中的主语相比）
John should understand Chinese better than he does（understand Chinese）．（助动词should和助动词does相比）
John can understand Chinese better than（John can）write（Chinese）．（主要动词和主要动词相比）
