1) one可以用作定语(也可称为限定词),表示“一个”:

He can't tell one tree from another. 他不会分辨树木。
The journey takes one hour. 路上要走一个钟头。
还可以和表示时间的名词连用:

Several boys were injured. 有几个小伙子受伤了。
I've read it several times. 我看了好几遍。
My friend speaks several languages. 我的朋友能讲几种语言。
We received several replies to our inquiry. 我们的询问收到了几份回答。
还可作主语(a)或宾语(b):
a. Several of us decided to walk home. 我们中有几个人决定步行回家。
Several (of them) were broken. (它们)有几个破了。
Several of the apples are rotten, and several more have worm holes. 有几个苹果烂了,还有几个有虫眼。
There are several here that I don't know. 这儿有几个人我不认识。
b. I already have several. 我已经有几个了。
He invited several of his friends to the show. 他邀请了几个朋友去观看演出。

b. 主语:
There were millions of blooms. 有数以百万计的花。
Two of the girls are from California. 姑娘中有两个来自加州。
Three will be enough. 三个就够了。
c. 宾语或介词宾语:
I read four of her novels. 我看了她写的四本小说。
"How many workers do they employ?" "Over two hundred, I think."“他们雇佣了多少工人?”“我想有两百多吧。”
The city has a population of three million. 这座城市有三百万人口。
d. 表语:
He was a little over five. 他才五岁多一点。
Its population is nearly two million. 它的人口接近两百万。
I'm fourteen and she's twelve. 我十四岁,她十二岁。
e. 同位语:
You two take these seats. 你们两人坐这里。

2) 基数词还可用于复数形式, 表示很大的数量:

6.2.1 序数词表示法
1) 序数词(Ordinal Numerals)是表示数目顺序的,和最基础的基数词相对应的序数词如下:
a. 除“第一”、“第二”、“第三”之外,其他序数词都以在基数词后加词尾th构成,其中有些词(见上表中的黑体部分)在拼法上有少许变化,如:
fifth eighth ninth twelfth twentieth等
b. 两位数的词,只需把个位数变为序数词:
第二十二 twenty-second 第三十一 thirty-first
第七十八 seventy-eighth 第九十三 ninety-third
c. 三位以上的词,只把最后的两位数变为序数词:
第一百五十 one hundred and fiftieth
第九百九十九 nine hundred and ninety-ninth
此外,first, second等词常缩写为1st, 2nd, 3rd, 20th, 21st等。
6.2.2 序数词在句中的作用
1) 序数词在句中可用作:
a. 定语(多和the或物主代词一道用):
We live on the fifth floor. 我们住五楼。
Is this your first visit to Beijing? 这是你第一次访问北京吗?
Tom is their second son. 汤姆是他们的二儿子。
We gave a party to celebrate her twentieth birthday. 我们举行晚会来庆祝她二十岁的生日。
There was a ceremony to mark the hundredth anniversary of his birth. 为纪念他诞生一百周年举行了一个仪式。
b. 表语:
They were the first to taste hardships. 他们吃苦在前。
You are the second to make that mistake. 你是第二个犯这种错误的人。

c. 主语:

The first (one) was no good, the second was even worse. 第一个不行,第二个更糟。

a. 序数词还可和a连用,表示“再一个”、“又一次”等:

b. 表示日期:
May 1st 五月一日 March 8th 三月八日 April 22nd 四月二十二日
c. 用在许多短语中:
I thought that performance thind-rate. 我认为那场演出是三流的。
We got four first-places in the sports meet. 运动会我们得了四个第一名。
He went second-class on the train to New York. 他坐二等车去纽约。
I bought a second-hand car. 我买了一辆二手车(旧车)。
