在面对雌性动物独特的繁殖和生存策略时,似乎女科学家能够更敏锐地捕捉到其中的细节。也许有人会说,这是因为女性天生细腻的性格,但读完这本书你就会知道,这只不过是身处类似境遇、有着类似遭遇所带来的观察视角罢了。像身高、长相、肤色一样,性别只不过是一种特征,既不是二元分裂的,也不是永恒不变的。在我们的传统认识中,不同性别之间似乎截然不同,在身体上、行为上以及思想上都是如此。但随着我们关于自然界的认识得到拓展,这种差异开始变得模糊,有时候,就连生物学家也无法为界定两性提供完全可靠的依据。
但这种特征所带来的影响又是客观存在的,对于动物是如此,对于我们自身也是如此。这种特征无疑会带来一些生存竞争中的差异,迫使雌性动物放弃某些资源。但生命总会寻找到出路,雌性动物总是可以利用自身的另一些特征,在竞争中获取一定的优势,而不是被所谓的性别标签所困,被外界定义自己应当如何存在。也许我们可以从这些雌性动物身上看到,如何全面认识自我的存在,利用自身独有的特征,掌握生活的主动,缔造美妙的生命,创造生活的价值。眇目始知盲道险,跛足方显石阶难。在共情同性之外,显而易见的是,其他性别的个体也在面对独有的困难与挑战,亦值得关注与同情。
