THEGODDESSAWAKENEDslowlyfromhercoldsleep,awarenessreturningasthechillblanketofthepassingseasonfellaway.Turningwithimperialgrace,shesoughtthelife-givingforceoftherenewedsun.
Soonshefeltitswarmthuponthelongandgravellybeachesofhercoastlines,anduponthestagnantexpansesofherlow,flatmarshes.Slowly,thesundrovewinter’sblanketfromtherollingmoorsandtilledfields.
Thewhitemantleremainedthickandheavyamongtheforestsandglensofthegoddess,andthehighlandsstillshowednosignofacknowledgingwinter’sendThiswasallasitshouldbe,andthegoddessrejoicedinthegrowingvitalityofherbody,theearth.
Shehadgrownsmaller,oflate,butherstrengthwasgreat.Herlands,thoughthreatened,wereinthecapablecareofherdruids,andeventheharbingersofthenewgodstreatedherwithacertaindeference.IntheMoonwells—placeswhereherpowerfloweddirectlyfromherspirittoherbody—waterofhighmagiclayclearandpristineamongthickpines,andinrockyclefts. |
